01 April---here is the journal i've been keeping while on semester break
like i said in my previous post, i'm not at home, so i can't upload pictures...you'll just have to check them out on facebook when i get back to sydney and upload them.
i left my apartment at about 5am this morning (after a lovely three hours of sleep). I caught the train to the Sydney Airport and then flew out at 7am. right off the bat i had travel issues (what do ya know!? pretty sure travel issues are the story of my life). we were in the process of descending to land in melbourne avalon airport when we had to quickly ascend because the weather had been poor and the tarmack was unsuitable to land on...so flew around for about an hour...then finally landed. then to my surprise...oh hey it looks like i've landed in the damn outback! last time i checked, melbourne was quite the large city. turns out, this lovely airport i landed in is SEVENTY km away from melbourne city...brilliant. so i had to catch the only bus that leaves this airport (did i mention it only had room for one plane to land at a time? yes...outback) and go into melbourne city. then i had to catch a tram to go back out of the city to st. kilda beach, to my hostel. so i finally got to my hostel, checked in (it's quite nice, looks like a good time)...checked out luna park (a bit unimpressive)...and now i am sitting at the beach. it is a beautiful day, but i'm tired as hell...perhaps relaxation time/a power nap.

02 April---
Last night was hilariously great! i finally met the roommates at my hostel and they are fantastic fun. There's Cole from Denmark, Rory from Israel, Joe from...no clue, and the two irishmen Mick and Shane. it was ladies night at the hostel bar so all the guys wore dresses and we went down so they could get free champaigne.

today, i woke up a bit later...the dinner i had last night was undercooked, i think, and i felt really sick...even ralphed a couple times. :/ buuuut...i went out to the aquarium today for a few hours. it was amazing! i love aquariums! there were penguins, creatures from aussie rivers, the reef, JELLYFISH!, little sharks, and huuuuuuge stingrays, and other saltwater creatures :]
i even made a penguin friend! granted, he was a person dressed in a suit...
then i came back for a power nap and met our newest roommate Carmen from Germany. she's absolutely great! we went to dinner and then walked around on the beach for a while. she is so adorable and we had a agood time and took lots of photos. we came back to the hostel and met up with rory andd cole and went down to the hostel bar. after that, we went back to the room and met the other new roommate...bullocks!! i forgot his name...but he's from jersey. we all left to subway, because our dear israeli friend was hungryso we had a good laugh out and about. in thailand apparently when you try to buy something and you ask if it is the same thing and quality as the actual brand name they say, "yes. same same but different." hilarious. so we kept saying that about everything.

faaar too much!
alllllrightttt...a LOT has happened since i visited brisbane...and i don't want you to get super bored reading a ton and ton...so i'll slowly update you.
i am still currently on my semester break (i just landed in hervey bay)...so i can't put any pictures on my blog...sad, i know...but i will let you know via facebook when i upload pictures so you can then go and check them all out...i already have FAAAAR too many, so it will be better to look at them all at once anyway!
sooo first!
last weekend...at least i think it was last weekend...maybe it was 2 weekends ago...
i went to a JASON DERULO CONCERT! bahahahaha...hilarious right?!
what is jason derulo doing in australia? who knows, but i saaw him anyway.
well, our tickets said it was supposed to start out at 10...turns out, by jason derulo's watch, 10 means 1am...so he FINALLY went on and then played THREE songs...then took a break...but the 3 songs were the only three i knew by him anyway, so i really wasn't bummed...then we were supposed to get a picture taken with him, so said our ticket...and right when i was, no lie, FIVE PEOPLE away...our dear jason, was too tired...upset? yes.
soooo that was that whole experience...but it was still fun, so i'm not too upset about it.
the next morning my dear lovlies torie and james went with me to the rocks. this is basically the area where the first fleet of convicts created their first settlement. there is a DELICIOUS place called pancakes on the rocks where i had chocolate pancakes...scrumptious, right? and then we walked around...saw a contortionist...a guy balance on a bike like 20 feet in the air and juggle swords and fire...and walked the harbour bridge!
i still haven't uploaded these pictures to facebook yet...my computer is hard core lacking memory so i am trying to upload pictures to flickr, but the australian internet connection is not so speedy...sooo when i get back to sydney i'll work on all of that :]
buuuut, that's all i will update for now!

brisbaneeee
ok ok ok i am soooo behind i knowww!so sorry kidlettes!buuuut...here i go...this may be a bit lengthy!
[first] --- brisbane aka brizzy aka bris vegas aka tropically humidly hot as hell city in queensland australia
so i went to brisbane to visit my lovely sister, alexis!first, i got there wednesday ((ST. PATTY'S DAY!)) evening.we went to a super awesome irish pub, i had a blast, and met her friends she's made while in brisbane! here are some pictures of the night:::
the next day , 18th march, we did what us girls do best, shoppingggg! and took in a few sights...here is a pic of me and my new brizzy best friends:::
19th march alexis had to go to the museum for a class, and me - being the super cool kid that i am - wanted to check out the museum. (i bought postcards for mom and dad...but i am slacking on the delivery! sorry family!) the museum was quite interesting, and i had a good time wandering around by myself...as always...i've always enjoyed checking things out on my own, but especially since i've been here, i love going out and checking the sights and such on my own.
thennn finally on the last day, march 20, i got my tourist on. alexis took me to southbank, which is beautiful. we checked out the street markets and the streets beach! it is this man made beach right in the middle of this city! wicked awesome! the hole areas was beautiful! aaaand...i met a lady who sells buttons who is in love with the movie EMPIRE RECORDS!!! if you know me, you know my deeeep deeeep love for the movie...so of course i talked with her for like 20 minutes and bought like 5 buttons...ha. but here are the pictures! enjoyyy! it is SUCH a beautiful area!
after, southbank, we walked up to alexis' schooll, Queensland University of Technology, QUT...
aaaaaaaaaaaaaand that is all i have the energy to update you good people about at the moment...i'll do more soon promisessss!

rando update
so i don't have that much excitment...but i missed writing for you kiddies...so here is my not so exciting post.soooo....this last weekend...i stayed out until FIVE AM three nights in a row...ohhh man it was rough...now before you go thinking i am a crazy party animal...there is something to understand...the train stops runninf before midnight...and who goes home before midnight?! and then they don't start running again until 5am! ridiculous, i say...but that is how it works...so here is some documentation of my fun times:::

i am terrible with titles
well...since my last update a few things have happened...
first and most exciting issss:::
saturday 27 February, 2010---
gay lesbian mardis gras paradeeeee!
this day was absolutely stellar!!!
we started the day by heading out to bondi beach.
it was so warm and lovely and beautiful!
after the beach we walked back to our hotel and stopped at the mall for MARDIS GRAS COSTUMES!

we then decked ourselves up and took the train...which was quite hilarious, considering we were the only mardis gras dressed people on the train...down to the parade.
this is when we realized that most people watching the parade were NOT as dressed up as us.
which essentially made us even more psyched on it.
countless people came up to us to take pictures with us or of us.
Some news media took our pictures too!
and a Taiwanese newstation even recorded us with their news anchor and she taught us to say hello taiwan and some other taiwanese phrase that i can't really remember at the moment. soooo...i have officially been on the taiwan national news, pretty rad.
we didn't get to the parade early enough to really see anything, unfortunate, i know.
but we met a lot of fun people and had a great night.
i am pretty sure we wlaked about a zillion miles...and i wore heels...i have the blisters to prove it.
monday 01 march, 2010---
this was my first day of schoooooool!!!
the lectures started this week but, but the tutorials (like a smaller group where you participate and talk about the material and such) start next week.
sooo on monday i only had two classes - normally i have 5...it's a loooong and rough day for sure.
but my classes sound great so far, a lot of work, but interesting.
the classes i am enrolled in are:
fundamentals of marketing
managing organisations and people
australian economic development
& global business environment
yayyyy!

and my schedule basically looks like class on monday straight from 10:30 - 7
tuesday one class 4:30 - 6
wednesday two classes 9 - 1
buuuut...i am currently cooking my first fish ever! and the oven just notified me that it is ready to go!

aboriginal lovinnnn!
so kids...today...i had orientation that was actually through UNSW.
some friendlies and i went down a bit early to locate classrooms and buildings and all that.
then orientation started...there was the usual, oh hey we're al oh so psyched to see you, you're going to have oh so much fun, yay yay yippee yippee, raw raw, we rule bit...thennnn...wait for it, wait for it...
an aboriginal dance group did a couple ritual dances!
epic right?
i took a couple pictures...twas stellar.
they play a long wooden musical instrument called a yirdaki (there is actually a different name for every tribe)...but us non tribal folk call it a didgeridoo.
the restof orientation was pretty...orientation-ish...and boring...
AND excitement of my life!
boys, earmuffs for a sec...
I FOUND TAMPONS WITH APPLICATORS! they don't have them like ANYWHERE...but after much hard work and tribulation...i found them...which definitely made my life a happy place.
okie boys...we're good now.
that's about everything for now...and i'm still slackering on flickr...it takes super long and shorts out my internet...ugh...it will happen though! buuuut they're on my facebook.

week numero UNOOO!
well my loves..i have been in the BEAUTIFUL city of sydney and it is beyond phenomenal!
this last week has been my orientation so i'll fill all you eager readers in on my escapades thus far:
thursday february 18th---
i drove the lovely 2.5 hours from poke-a-tell-oh to salt lake city...
boarded my small little flight to LAX and traveled for 2 hours...
then i met a group of Study Australia students and then we trekked across the world to Australia on a 15 hour flight...twas brutal
this brings us to saturday february 20th [yes, i did in fact just miss the 19th of february...i left the 18th and passed the international date line and finished up on saturday]---
i landed about 9:30 feeling haggard as hell, haven't showered in what seems to be forever.
there was a lot of waiting around...and more waiting around...lugging our luggage around...
we did an info sesh...finally got to our rooms and SHOWERED...and i got my aussie phone :]
then we went out to eat at this harbour-side restuarant...and i, brittney lynn terry, ate my first kangaroo...he tasted like rrrrrrreally tender steak...which was weird, i expected it to be really lean and tough muscle...but they have to prepare it wuite rare so that doesn't happen...it was delicious.
the roommates, katie and molly (our fourth roommate was having visa issues so wasn't with us yet), and i went and ventured around the CBD (central business district...the equivalent of an american downtown)...then i was absolutely exhausted from the traveling and messed up sleep schedule and time craziness so i passed out
february 21st---
this day was so spectacular...we went ABSEILING! (for americans...this means repelling)
we went out to the blue mountains...which is about 2 hours outside of sydney...they are BEAUTIFUL! i'll update my flickr soon ;]
we had to hike down this CRAZY trail down to the actualy cliff rock ish things.
then we did a little baby abseil down a 10 foot rock...then i moved on to a 60 foot rock which was a bit scarier...then i abseiled down a 180 FOOT CLIFF! it was so killer...i loved it! i had a shit glove so the rope was burning my hand! it was so crazy...but incredibly fun so in the end it was all good haha
once getting to the bottom of the cliff we had to hike up this MASSIVE gully...pretty sure it was harder than abseiling...ughhhh...haha...i think i probably burned like 10,000 calories that day.
february 22nd---
this day we did a walking tour of sydney...sydney is absolutely HUGE so we didn't get to see everything, obviously...we got a brief history and such from our BRILLIANT orientation coordinator, Russ. and just as a side note...australian men age MUCH better than american men...this guy is in his late 40s early 50s i'd say and has a rockin bod and looks fabulous!
during the walking tour we saw iconic landmarks like the sydney opera house and the harbour bridge...and then went through hyde park, saw the australian museum...lots of stellar sites...like i said, flickr pics soon!
afterwards we took a bus out to a local australian zoo!
and it was even better because it was a PETTING ZOO!
i got to pet a baby wallaby who was oh so tender...lots of kangaroos! and then some eucalyptus doped out koalas :] (in case you were not aware, koalas are quite vicious, the only reason they are always so calm and sleep so often is because they eat a TON of eucalyptus which is essentially like weed for koalas...they're doped out and sedated ALL the time)
februay 23rd---
on tuesday i went out to UNSW to sign up for my classes...ummmm guys...my schedule is WICKED AWESOME! i have no class on thursday or friday and i get done with classes on wednesday at noon.
then i got my student ID...which was the longest wait of my life.
then we went out to cogee beach...which is absolutely beautiful...and layed out...oh did i mention the sun is HOT AS HELL and i have a killer burn?
because ohhh i do.
then this evening we went on a sydney harbour cruise with a delicious salmon dinner :]
february 24th---
today was another long day of waiting and transferring and moving into my apartment! it is awesomeee! my roommates, molly katie, and alli are INCREDIBLE! we get along famously and i adore them :]
future updates will include:::
tomorrow i have orientation with UNSW
saturday i am getting my bartending license...pretty stellar eh?
and saturday evening i am going to the gay lesbian mardis gras parade! -->it is this HUUUGE ordeal here with about 300,000 people attending :] who's psyched!
